Outdoor leisure and community spirit
This parcel of land was originally gifted to the Village and Parish of New Deer in 1901, by Alexander Dingwall-Fordyce of Brucklay, and is now under the ownership and stewardship of New Deer Community Association. The NDCA supervises its overall maintenance, although New Deer Football Club takes care of the regular grass-cutting.
Located at the end of Fordyce Road, the area extends to just over 5 acres. It currently accommodates a children’s play area, the Bowling Green and Pavilion, two full-size grass football pitches, one small enclosed all-weather multi-sport surface, with adjacent state of the art changing rooms, and two separate car parking areas.
There are two play areas side by side – one small space designed specifically with young children in mind, and a larger one suitable for older children – and, quite often – adults!
The All-Weather Facility was officially opened in 2015, and is home to the local football team. It is a huge asset to the village. Competitively priced for hire, it is well used for training throughout the year by many teams travelling from throughout the central Buchan area and beyond. New Deer Football Club is responsible for running the facility.
During the summer months the Bowling Club is a hive of activity, and has a healthy membership. It is run independently by its own committee, who oversee their own meticulous ground-care.
If both football pitches are in use, and the bowlers are busy, car parking at the Community Park can be at a premium!
For years, this attractive green space in the village was known simply as “The Pleasure Park” – being a natural focal point for outdoor leisure and pleasure activities. It was renamed the Dingwall-Fordyce Community Park in August 2019.
